Meet Lon McDonald
Lon McDonald brings more than 45 years of business management and problem-solving experience to his work in public service. Throughout his career, Lon has been known as a steady, thoughtful leader—someone who understands how organizations work, how challenges arise, and how to fix what isn’t working. Including disassembling and reassembling organizations to save millions dollars of ineffective and unneeded spending.
Lon currently serves as a Jackson County Councilman to the University of Missouri Extension, as well as on its district board, where he helps guide educational and community-focused initiatives that support local growth and long-term planning.
For more than 25 years, Lon has also been a dedicated volunteer with the Institute of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC). During his tenure, he has held numerous leadership roles, including International Vice President and Treasurer, contributing to governance, standards development, and organizational oversight at the highest levels.
In addition to his public and professional service, Lon currently serves as Vice President of the International Video Game Hall of Fame, where he oversees Inductee Relations and Governance, helping preserve history while ensuring strong leadership practices. He also serves on the Marriott HAB, where he has previously held the roles of Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
Lon’s background includes participation in numerous think tanks, advisory boards, and expert-level leadership roles, giving him a broad, practical perspective on governance, accountability, and decision-making. His experience across business, nonprofit leadership, and community service has shaped a results-driven approach focused on responsibility, transparency, and long-term value for the people he serves.
